RESEARCHERS

Your research career with us starts right here. We currently employ 150 Social Researchers across a wide range of topics including health, population, demography, geography, the labour market and socio-economic inequalities. They work on a range of data sources, such as the Census, social surveys and administrative sources, e.g. births and death records and unemployment benefits data. They’re joined by a number of Survey Methodologists who design, conduct and report on surveys of the population, helping to paint a perfect portrait of the nation.

As a Social Researcher, you’ll contribute to the whole range of survey work, from the design and management of research projects through to preparing bids for work subject to competitive tender. If you’re more suitable to a Survey Methodologist role you’ll provide specialist expertise and advice on survey methodology and design, an incredibly innovative and rewarding field.

Naturally, as the organisation that carries out research into almost every area of life in the UK, we’re able to offer an equally wide range of other research positions. Geographers is another key discipline. Here you’ll be working on a range of projects - developing datasets and approaches to data referencing, researching geographic and GIS analysis techniques and developing geographic policy. We’re also currently involved in critical research to inform key decisions on how the 2011 Census will be run, arguably one of the biggest research projects in UK history! Of course that’s just as snapshot of what we do, if you’re the kind of person we’re looking for, you’ll want to do your own research…
