Economists
We play a central role in analysing and reporting on the UK's rapidly changing economy. So, as one of our Economists, there’ll never be a dull moment. You’ll have a unique chance to apply economic theory to an incredible range of practical issues too, partnering professionals with a strong statistical and policy research background as well as analysts in other government departments. In turn you’ll gain an excellent understanding of UK statistics and how these can be applied to policy analysis and empirical economics in a rigorous and meaningful way. As many of our Economists have found, such understanding can be invaluable when it comes to career progression.
By providing your colleagues with up–to–the–minute analysis of the latest trends in the economy you’ll actually be helping to shape macroeconomic policy making. You could also find yourself being heavily involved in pioneering work that looks at the measurement of government activity, including the productivity of the main public services. Of course our work isn’t limited to macroeconomic issues, we also look within the aggregate numbers. For example, we’re currently working with leading academics to improve understanding of productivity and structural change in the economy and the impacts of technology and globalisation.
